Brian Alonzo 03-03-09 Period 4/5 English Becky Essay
The story “Becky and the Wheels-and-Brake Boys” was written by the author James Berry. The story is about a girl named Becky and wants a bike, but her mother wouldn’tget her one. Becky is also a credible character. A credible character is a character that does things that are believable. Here are some reasons that make Becky credible.
The first reason is that she keeps begging her mom for what she wants. Here is a quote: “ Over and over I told my mom I wanted a bike”, Becky said. She said this to her mom because she wants a bike to ride with Wheel and Brake Boys. This is a reason for being credible because every kid begs their parent for what they want.
The second reason that proves she is credible is that she gets in a fight with her friend and gets angry at her. Becky thinks this to herself, “For the first time Shirnette and me had a real fight because of what I hated most.” She was mad at her friend because Shirnette put a cockroach in her blouse. This is credible because kids sometimes have at lease one fight with their friends.
The third reason that she is realistic is that she asks help to learn a new skill. Becky asks to The Wheels and Brake Boys “Can somebody teach me to ride?” Becky said this because she wants to learn how to ride a bike so that when she gets a bike she can ride with the boys. This is credible because everyone asks anyone to learn a skill. For example, school because teachers teach you new things.
In conclusion, Becky’s actions, emotions, and words prove that she is a credible character. I am like Becky because I beg my mom for stuff that I want. You might even know someone in your neighborhood that’s just like Becky! Or, it could even be you!
